Our beginnings

When we started Waterside Bistro, we wanted to create an atmosphere where friends and families would feel at home. Our passion is for freshly prepared, good food, using quality local ingredients at sensible prices. Matt grew up in South Devon and trained as a chef at Plymouth & Westminster College. When he graduated, Matt moved from the Westcountry to work at the Sloane Club in London, and was soon hired as Sous Chef at Scotts of Mayfair. Delphine grew up in Angers on the river Loire in France, and came to London to work at L’Escargot in Soho, Le Gavroche in Mayfair, and then as manager at Bertorelli.

How we met

We spent years working around London, and our careers took a dramatic turn when we met at the leading fish restaurant, Livebait. Matt was Head Chef, and soon after, Delphine became the Restaurant Manager. We hit it off from the start, and decided to make a life together, and to return to the Westcountry to set up our own family.

Coming home

We moved to South Devon seven years ago and started the Waterside Bistro in Totnes soon after. You'll find Delphine at front of house, bringing that bit of French flair, and Matt in charge of the kitchen.
